The Other Side of Fear

My name is Safina. I am a Ugandan currently studying a Bachelor of International Relations, concentrating in Peace and Conflict and a minor in Psychology at United States International University Africa. I work with refugees at Refugee Now Kampala, sexual assault victims with FemmePowerUG and occasionally, I partner with Strides of Hope Foundation (SoHope) during mental health outreaches.

I have not drawn any inspiration from women in leadership positions. As a feminist, it makes me happy that women are now able to be in positions that were traditionally known to be held by men; most especially women of colour breaking through barriers in the public sphere but, I have not particularly been inspired by any. Perhaps, I have not come across a woman in leadership that resonates with me. A lot of women in power that I have seen or read about in history or contemporary society are either pawns…
